"There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: One is roots, the other is wings." ~ Hodding Carter

In the corner of his room, there is a tiny space under the window. In that space, a stained, flip table has become a makeshift desk. I can see he spent much time on this cozy little place, with all its purposeful detail. Budgy, the oldest and most loyal of friends, looked on.  My darling rambunctious boy, had made himself a sweet, serene, and sacred little space.

I stayed here for few minutes as the warmth of what he had created began to fill my own soul. I began to understand, though it may it not be conscious in his own mind, that a seed is growing. This seed has expanding spaces for things like peace and passion, but primarily it's a space for his soul to seek, ponder, and grow. In that moment, all my worries about him, floated away. And then, something wonderful happened...

He caught me... smiling in his sacred space.
