In her short little life, she has taught me the most (more than any book or expert) about how to be a mindful, respectful, and authentic parent. She makes no excuses for who she is and has more confidence at 6 than I ever did at 25.
She has said to me things that I will never forget... things like "This is me, Mom, and I can't be you." or "Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean I can't." Her insight and her honesty have floored me many times over, pushing me to accept everything about her, just as she is. And in that process, I have learned the same for myself. She has reminded me that children are not for molding, but by honoring the light in them, we can honor the light in ourselves.
