Yarn Along ~ A Fling and an Invitation

Joining Ginny again for Yarn Along~

I was minding my own business, as devoted to my afghan as I could be, especially knowing that we were in it for the long haul together (with 95 squares still left to make), when what should arrive at my doorstep?   Lemongrass from Sweet Basil FibreWorks.  Yes, I admit, I may have looked at Lemongrass a few times and did invite the yarn to my home, but I had absolutely no intention of beginning a relationship, not soon after I started with the afghan!!   But, that Lemongrass I tell you... I was teased and wooed, relentlessly!!  I even put Lemongrass away, sure that if it lay out of my sight, I could stay faithful and loyal to the afghan.  But, I am weak, you see, hopelessly in love with new colors, textures, and ideas.   And so, yes, a fling has begun, and I must tell you, it is soooo worth it :).  It won't be long before a new shawl will be completed from lovely Lemongrass, and maybe, just maybe, afghan will get some attention again.  But, I must admit, I do have wandering eyes....

On a totally different note, remember that apron I knitted and never posted?  Here it is!!  I was so excited about my giveaway last week I totally forgot to post it.  Better late than never, yes?

As far as reads, I wanted to post a poem I came across for the first time recently.  You may already know it, but I loved it so much I wanted to post it here.  It spoke to me, magnetically, and I am wondering, does it speak to you?  I hope you enjoy :).

The Invitation
 by Oriah

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for,
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.
.
It doesn't interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love,
for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or
have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own,
without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own,
if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful,
be realistic, or to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true,
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself,
if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul;

I want to know if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see beauty, even when it is not pretty every day,
and if you can source your life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours or mine,
and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, "Yes."

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up after a night of grief and despair,
weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself,
and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

With peace and love...

  6. Oh -- what a lovely shawl that will be!

And thank you for sharing that poem. I have read it before, but seeing it here, and reading it in the context of the blogging community of similarly-minded mamas gives it new meaning to me!

    Thank you!

  7. The poetry gave me chills. That's a great apron, and I love the shawl. Sometimes there's nothing in the world wrong with letting our eyes wander, right?

  10. Loving your creations, and wishing I had the patience to create something as intricate.
Am I the only one who wants to pull on the one piece to watch the whole thing unravel??? Oh what fun!
Kind of like how watching the dominoes fall is just as fun as setting them all up. No? :)
By the way, I love the pic of the wee ones in the canoe. Thanks for giving me my daily "fix" of inspiration.

And I think you did what you had to do with that wool...it is just too dreamy. Sweet apron! I was wondering what happened to it!

  23. Gorgeous combination of crochet, knitting & poetry. I can see why the poem would be a favourite, very poignant. I love the apron, I'm not even sure I understood that was what it was going to be when you first started it. I thought it was a cover for a laptop & apron was an American term for that. Not clicking that you meant a 'proper' apron (or pinny as we call them). It is gorgeous, a great way of using up a small amount of yarn too.

I'm not surprised you are having a fling, that yarn looks lovely. You've got so much of the shawl completed too! Variety is the spice of life, and you'll return to the afghan with renewed interest.

  24. what is the pattern for this? It looks beautiful.

  25. Hi Jen, I don't have an email for you otherwise I would contact you that way. If you are asking about the apron pattern, it is a free Lily pattern off one of their cotton sugar n cream yarns. If you would like the pattern, let me know and I will get it to you somehow! And that goes for anyone else too :). The shawl pattern is linked above if that is what you were asking for :).
