Yarn Along with Ginny is here again :)!
It's slow going on the gnome hat from last week, though I am trying to take my time and keep an eagle eye out for eager stitches looking to drop :).
Speaking of eagle eye, do you like how Leo and Mona are both looking at you? Hee hee, me too :)...
I had to share with you one of M's passions. Pop-up books. She is drawn to these books and I have come to love and appreciate these works of art just as much. Our latest addition to our collection is Leonardo Da Vinci by A. & M. Provensen. What I LOVE about this book is the artwork by Alice Provensen. I did not realize how much her (and her husband's) illustrations have been sprinkled throughout my childhood. Do you remember this or how about this (ok that one's a bit older than me)?
I am still reading Bird by Bird which I still love, love, love. And I also became a little sidetracked with picking up Nurture Shock: New Thinking About Children . It's basically a collection of statistics that debunks a lot of mainstream thinking regarding children and sleep, praise, race, giftedness tests, sibling rivalry, and a few more. Interestingly enough, for most well informed and conscientious parents much of it is nothing new :).
One last thing, I have to thank Zoe at Give an Earthly for inviting me to interview for her Super Woman series (you've seen my cape haven't you--LOL). If you are interested and have an extra few minutes, you can read it here.
Always thrilled it's Yarn Along, looking forward to seeing yours!!!
Cheers
xx oo
Miss 3 loves pop-up books so will have to keep this one in mind for a little older. i see to have completely missed Provensen's work as a child!

ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic book to introduce an artist to a little one. I've bookmarked that. I look forward to seeing the finished hat as I know you'll not let a little frogging get the better of you. Cx

ReplyDeleteSecond, pop-up books are the bomb.
Third, Nurture Shock is a great book. I haven't read the whole thing, but the part about praise was so interesting and true I think.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful mossy green for a gnome hat. And we also love pop-up books at our house!
ReplyDeleteWe love pop ups here, too! Have you ever seen Botticelli's Bed and Breakfast? We have it, and it's really neat!
ReplyDeleteI love pop up books! What fun to find another one to look out for!
ReplyDeleteThat is the neatest pop-up book I have seen! I am just so tickled by Leo's expression. Cool!
ReplyDeleteLove that picture!
ReplyDeleteThat book looks fantastic! Pop-up books are especially captivating.
ReplyDeleteI'm still loving those chunky stitches on your needles!
Ooo...I just got an e-mail from the library that Nurture Shock is in. I'll have to make sure and grab it with your good review!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look for the Nurture-shock book- sounds like an interesting read for the conscious parenting type.
ReplyDeleteWhat gnome hat are you doing? From "More Knitted Gifts"?
Fabulous yarn - and what a cool book - yay for pop ups! xx
ReplyDeleteI LOVE pop-up books. Such amazing architectural/mechanical highly engineered works of art. Someone has to figure all that out and I believe, they are all still hand done. My yarning has slowed down. Perhaps because it is so darn hot here?!!!
ReplyDeleteI love pop-up books.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite one is a book of Maxfield Parrish paintings that I haven't ever let my kids read. It's too precious to me.
Pop up books are awesome!!! Love the color of your yarn too!! Can;t wait to see the finished product. Come check out my stuff
