A moment of life

My hands look older than they did yesterday. These hands, how they have lived and loved through so much already. How can I not gaze upon them fondly? All it takes is a cup of tea, all that it brings, and I remember.

Like cracks and crevices, there are some things that we wish we could just erase and remove, start over, and start fresh. Yet, the path to wisdom is one full of mistakes, cracks and crevices, pitfalls and even regret. Such a paradox, we expand as we shrivel, we grow as we shrink. Well, at least, that is what I hope for.

  1. Ha, I took a photo of my hand the other day holding the wee ones and couldn't believe my eyes...I have old hands! Oh well, at least I am young inside! ;)

  2. I've noticed that I have my mother's hands (it's a good thing) especially when I am knitting and like tracey mine are old too. And yes inside I am eternally young at heart.

  3. The first thing I saw was not your hands but that glorious cup of tea- which could kind of make everything okay! :)

  9. Nicely put, and exactly what I feel about my growing older - and in spite of all my efforts, even wiser. =) The person inside the shell has grown so much, even as the outside wrinkles and softens and changes in ways I'd prefer not. Perfect photo for the words.

  11. lovely writing mj in all seriousness. now i must interject here and say... don't you look soooo much older in dry colorado than you ever did in humid moist florida? it's the first thing i noticed coming back to california - which is half as arid as colorado. my hands look sooo old! : ) it is good to look at them with thoughts such as yours rather than, OMG! i need to invest in a better hand cream.

  12. What a beautiful sentiment..as I read it hundreds of thoughts and memories flooded my mind..all the things our bodies endure and how our past lives begin to show on the outside more and more as we age. x

  18. In the such bright sunlight of this summer I too have been noticing my hands, and the age that they have taken on in the past several years...at times marveling at all they've been through, and at times realizing that they will never be quite as smooth as before.

Hugs to you MJ. Hugs to you.
