Yarn Along ~ Flowers and Gardens

Joining Ginny over at Small Things for Yarn Along:
"~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? ... ~"

I am happy to say that my knitted apron is finished!! I'll post it next week after I get a good shot of it on :).  Thanks for all the encouragement to get it done, you all ROCK!!

So I am off and running with this vintage rose and daisy afghan pattern.  I must say it was a bit of slow start as I had to convert all the crochet stitches from UK to US.  Can anyone tell me how this happened?  A UK double crochet is a US single crochet and a US half double is a UK half treble and so on...Those darn Americans, gotta complicate everything :).  Anyway, I need to make 50 roses and 50 daisies before I put it all together.  Stopping to smell the roses will be an understatement as this one may take awhile :).

Meanwhile, I am now in the latter half of the Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton and this book gets better by the chapter.  I actually look forward to finishing now though as I learned I won 2 books from Amy of Knitter of Hats Speaks book giveaway!!! Thanks Amy! She is having giveaways all week so make sure you head over there and enter!!

On the homefront, I wanted to mention we did get an offer on the house, so more on that and the other tomorrow :).  Looking forward to seeing your yarn along!!

  1. MJ, sounds like exciting times at your home. I never learned to crochet, much to my mother's dismay, but I do love how your flowers look. Congrats on winning the giveaway...you'll have to let us know about them.
    Warmly,
    Tracey

  2. Love the pretty femme flower. Would make a beautiful vintage shawl. Did I spell that right? I just pictured you wearing it as if you weren't already the cutest thing ever created.
You got an offer???? What? That's causing all sorts of conflicting feelings. Happy for you but selfishly sad for us. You know, that sort of thing. So glad you have this blog, now we won't miss a beat if/when you go. Kai and I are in Miami.. Will be in touch when we get back. Love you!

  5. That is going to be a very pretty afghan! I have not yet had to convert anything from UK to US, but a lot of times I need to translate German stitches or patterns into American stitches or patterns. Took me a while to figure out what some of the stitches are called here...

  7. Ooh, you are going to make me green with envy with that blanket. Can't wait to see it come together. I have the opposite problem in that all the crochet patterns I find are US & I have to 'try' to convert to UK.

  9. Awesome news about the house offer!
That flower is so pretty. I have yet to learn how to crochet. There is a local shop owner who crochets the most fantabulous and fashionable scarves.
I get what you mean about the complications-just gotta be different even if the old way made sense.

  11. Congrats on the house offer! I hope it all goes through smoothly. :)

Good luck crocheting 100 flowers- I don't know if I could repeat the same thing so many times, though I'm told crocheting is much faster than knitting. Do you find that to be true?

  12. Yes, totally true Erin!! But still, 100 flowers, what am I thinking????

  16. Congratulations on the house offer! How exciting!
I love the little flower pattern, it will look so pretty when it's finished. My daughter is really into crocheting flowers at the moment, I'll have to get her busy sewing them up into an afgan now I think :)
