Hailing Autumn

It was quite windy yesterday, so windy that it blew our spider webs off the bushes and the pumpkins off the porch. With the wind and on a broomstick, Autumn has finally arrived. We have our own way of summoning the fall season down here. Using the Halloween spirit, we color our landscape with flashy orange pumpkins, ghastly hanging ghosts, and smooth talking skeletons. Some people may decorate crazy around here, or at the very least hang pumpkins on their mailboxes to let us know they've been Booed.  And then we wait, we wait for the crispness that comes with the wind, that electric jolt to the skin letting us know that the temperatures have dropped, and that maybe it's time to welcome Autumn, at last...

This historic house every year decorates its entire property for Halloween, Christmas
and Easter. Gaudy yes, but absolutely spirited!! On Halloween, they open their home for
one night only to all their neighbors and the public, for a haunted house walkthrough
and a Halloween BBQ in their backyard :).

  1. Dare I say that I have never gotten into the Halloween spirit? With scenes like these around me, however, I think it would be hard not to! I was booed, for the first time ever, last year, and that did give me a bit of a push to get excited :) Anyway, I love the photos, MJ :) Happy Autumn!

  2. smooth talking skeletons ay? :)
    love that first photo!

autumn has truly arrived here, although we don't get the beauty of rich browns and oranges for a while.

it's always fun when there's at least one person nutty enough to decorate like that. we wouldn't do it, but it's a blast to look at.

  3. Lol, I should have mentioned that the skeleton in photo # 3 talks, and says things like "I'd go inside with ya, but I don't have the guts--hyeah!" Or "Eat some candy will ya, you're almost as skinny as me--hyeah!" . The kids love that thing... ( me too :).

  11. That house and the owners' neighborly Halloween spirit made me smile today. Wish I could send you some of our beautiful autumn leaves and chilly grey mornings to help celebrate :-)

  12. Booed with a plastic pumpkin? Neat idea. We get booed every year as well, maybe I will add the plastic pumpkin (although that will potentially up the amount of candy left). Great pictures of old cars and skeletons!
