Yarn along 11.30.11

Yarn Along with Ginny today, where we share what we are reading and what we are knitting/crocheting.

Okay so I know I've been spotty with the yarn along posts, but it's because I am as fickle as the weatherman and if it's hot, I have zero desire to knit or crochet. So, you can surmise then that it's actually cooling off in FL at the moment. Please for the love of yarn along may it stick around!! I did finish my mitts from the last yarn along post and I am a bad bad yarn alonger for not having a picture of them, but they turned out great :).

It's dark here right now, so I had to shoot by the light of our tree to get the yarn along photo in :).  I am knitting once again the Big Lace Scarf pattern from the More Knitted Gifts book, but this time with smaller yarn. In my greenness and due to my fear of gauge mishaps, I usually knit with the exact size yarn for the exact same needle size that the pattern suggests. Well, this pattern allows me to face that fear head on and change it up a bit, even though it's another scarf, again, like I don't have enough already, but maybe this will be a gift....scarf.

Anyway, what I am reading...still Jane Eyre, which I love, and I have now added The History of Love by Nicole Krauss, and Hold On to Your Kids by Gorden Neufeld and Gabor Mate. I am in the early stages of the latter two books so can't say much other than they both came highly recommended and they both have grabbed my attention within the first chapter. Hold On to Your Kids came as a recommendation from friend and blogger Stacy at Sweet Sky, and focuses on the importance of attachment between parents and children, how more and more peer attachment has replaced parental attachment, and the detriment this has had on our relationships and our culture. I'll share more as I progress if you are interested, but here is a great review that Stacy had linked to in her post.

And with a wink from Santa, I hope you are off to have an excellent day...
love to you friends..
xoxo

  6. Oh yes, I never use the gauge. I have these nice wooden needles (size 13, I think) that I try to use for everything. Your scarf looks so pretty! I like the book recommendations, especially The History of Love, will have to get that from the library. The other would be good for my analytical mind and to figure out the psychosis of the children I teach ;)

  9. I'd say the lighting worked wonderfully! I just recently finished reading Jane Eyre and I loved it too. I didn't really love the newest Jane Eyre movie though because it cut SO much of the story and I'm kind of a purist sometimes. ;)

Can't wait to see your finished projects!

  10. your needles look like rainbow candy canes! so christmassy at your place - i love it! i'm reading "hold on to your kids" right now too and have been wanting to for a year from the recommendation of a few other bloggers. i am pushing through it. it's such a dry read. i have a hard time with this kind of text book type writing - but, the message is so good that i keep reading. i got it from the library here and may not finish so... um... can you finish it and tell me what i missed? : ) just in case.

  15. If you find yourself with too many scarves, you may easily have your next giveaway prize ;)

I made a mental note of Hold on To Your Kids when I saw Stacy's post, but forgot to write it down so I'm thankful for another mention of it. I'll be happy to hear your impressions when you've finished with it.

  16. Loving that Santa wink. I know all about not knitting in the heat too.
I would love to hear more about the book: Hold on to Your Kids. I am trying to so much. This is when I yearn for homeschooling.
