Joy Pockets 1.27.12

Brooke Schmidt
Friday!! Which means Joy Pockets!!! Created by Monica, and hosted by Melissa this week, and I have something special to share. A great pleasure of blogging is discovering the sheer talent that shines throughout the web. I am continually awed by the creative individuals out here who consistently produce magnificence. Painters, writers, photographers, singers, metal workers, and all around creatives who seem to pluck ideas straight from the clouds, like magic.

Being married to a creative, I know that the need to create is so deeply rooted within their souls that there is no choice but to let it spill from their heads and hearts, and finally through their hands. To not do so would bring darkness, stagnation, and emotional pain, truly, as I have seen this with my own eyes. And maybe it is because I've watched my own husband's trials in his elemental need to express his creative voice, that I can appreciate what it takes to forge something original and share it with the world. Seeing a piece of art that speaks to me is like having fairy dust sprinkled on my head so that I may fly and be carried to someplace special for awhile. It's a wonderful feeling....

So with that said, I want to reinstate something I did near when my blog began, which is to share amazing artists, usually (but not always) found on Etsy. I will share at least one every Friday on Joy Pockets, but today I have three :).

Brooke Schmidt is the lovely blogger at always time for tea. She is a talented photographer who I believe was the first person who showed me what one could do with a polaroid. But it wasn't until I went to her Etsy shop and Flickr page that I realized the extent of her imagination. See this and read this, and you will see what I mean!!

And then there is Demie. I love storytellers, and that is exactly what Demie is, a storyteller and a weaver of words. She believes in magic and fairies, and the beautiful places she goes with her mind, leaves me wanting to go with her too. Here is one of my favorites, and she now has a book which you can see and purchase here.

And finally there is Kelly, at Umber Dove Studios. She is a painter, a metalsmith, an all around creative, and her work is simply stunning. Her most recent watercolor "Daydreaming of Future Mountains" leapt and grasped my attention, not just for its exquisite color and detail, but the title meant something to me as well :), as you may guess. Usually her work sells out instantly, so you have to move like lightening if you desire any!

My last joy to share this week has to do with the discovery of a band whose sounds I fell in love with immediately. Beautiful and earthy, everything looks greener and clearer when I hear their music. They will rank among my favorites for a long while, and this road trip playlist is shaping up nicely I think :).

And if you liked that one, checkout another of their songs at Amanda's who also posted them week :).
Wishing you all a little fairy dust and Never Never Land
have a great weekend...
xoxo

    1. You know, funny enough, it was on Monday that I discovered them, thanks to one of our camping friends that mentioned them last weekend. Then all of sudden this week, they seem to have gone viral...and I am not surprised :). Good for them...and why am I not surprised that you love them too??
