Voice and bloom

And it comes down to finding one voice. Our own true voice that bellows fearlessly from the pit of our bellies. One that assures that there is a purpose to our persistent pursuit of passion, and one that resonates with the vibrations of our very soul. This voice expels with each breath, a heart that is resoundingly full, and an intuitive understanding of our place in this world.

This is my hope for 2013, to connect wholeheartedly with my voice, my mechanism of expression, a pathway to reaching and stretching myself creatively beyond what I have imagined. I have been gifted with being able to explore many creative avenues for where my voice can flourish. Yet, I lack focus, I lack an intuitive understanding where my energies need to lie. Whether my voice is here burgeoning in something I can already do or am capable of I do not know. And yet what I do know is that there will be no guarantee that what I pursue with devout dedication will provide a means to an end---save one thing, an opportunity to bloom with a brightness that burns from within. And this for me, is worth all the beckoning.

May this year help you find your bloom as well....

Happy New Year to you all!!

xoxo

ps. Do you have a word for the year?

  1. I have all the faith in you MJ that you will bloom so bright I will be able to see it from here! You have a great word for twenty thirteen. My word for the new year is Embrace because I want to embrace each and every moment that comes, not hid in fear or turn away from all that is offered, always playing it safe and never taking a chance.

  3. Wonderful, MJ! Finding ones voice -- something for all of us! I have no word for the year. I still find myself learning to live all on my own -- a journey. Finding a smile each day is enough!

  5. I'm still finding my voice, I think it is in constant state of evolution. When I had my empty nest for the first time, I wanted to make sure I had "stuff" to do that I enjoyed and also express myself.

I am sure you will succeed in any ambition. As long as your having fun then it's meant to be explored :)

  7. It's more a sentence than a word. It's "show up and get wet". I finished reading Daring Greatly and there is a passage where she shares a story about her daughter being afraid of going to a swim meet for fear of not being good enough. So Brene tells her what if your goal is to show up and get wet.
I am always afraid of not being good enough, of how I will be perceived, will the outcome be good enough... I will try to embrace the journey more in 2013

  8. fabulous dear friend. i watch you bloom all the time! don't for a minute think that a focus is superior to all the meandering you've been doing, because it has been joyous to yourself and to us watching along. x

  14. I have long noticed that creativity and high energy produces a lack of focus. Being open and interested in many pursuits to bring enjoyment and purpose is such a blessing. I feel like more than more and more women in particular are realizing this. But, yes the lack of focus as we try to live a more true creative life. The fall out of the information age: too much stuff, craft blogs, Somerset magazines, pintrest, clearance racks at Michaels. I cut a lot of that out last year. And like you, this year I want to focus and invest wisely those precious few hours I have for creativity. I feel so torn at my dual responsibility to gently guide my girls and help my husband, and to gently follow my own creative path. I feel like a real flop when days end and I have not done either well. That is why I decided my word this year is: Simple {last year's was Gentle} Because getting it all figured and out and trying harder and harder is not really working. Learning the lesson that my divine purpose reveals itself to me the less I do, and the more I listen; shut out guilt and negativity and pointless noise. God's interested in the big stuff (like raising children and marriage) and little stuff (like taking pictures of kids' shoes and blog posts) I just have to simply trust the next simple, unseen step, day by day, and do it.
    Cheers.
P.S. If you end up hating Girl with a Pearl Earring, I'm sorry!

  15. I stumbled upon your blog just now and am completely in tune with what's on your mind. Perhaps it's the anticipation of a new beginning (funny how the turning of a calendar year does that to some of us) but I, too, am hoping to find a clearer voice this year as I continue to pursue my passions. I'll definitely keep an eye on your writings to keep me inspired!

  17. I love this resolution of yours - I think that under all the surface resolutions of mine I share the same one. To connect to my voice. To practice even hearing my voice would be a good start.

    I know you'll do it!

  18. bloom....that words evokes my heart to unfold
I think about watching a flower bloom in quick time...one petal at a time...one moment at a time...every movement intentional
    I love it!
I look forward to walking this year with you my sister
I look forward to watching you bloom and learning form you along the way

  19. I'm listening...
My word is return. I was a bit lost in the busyness of fall and the holidays. I need to return to the simple joys of each day, to slow down and return to purpose, if that makes sense:)
    Happy New Year.

  20. My word for 2013 is focus. I lack focus. It seems that the past years, I don't focus much on the details of every thing, event, etc. Sure, I did fun to look at things in a surface-level but it must be more fun to dig more deeper.
