Yaw

I have felt this yaw before, arriving with the cool, subdued mornings, and the shifting shadows in the late afternoons. Summer is coming to an end and once again we alter our course for new beginnings. My absence in this space has only meant more presence in my daily life. Family visiting, a birthday for the boy, edible mushroom hunting in the woods, all of these things have begun to form the final bookend to this sanguine summer.

We stared at each other for what seemed like a hundred minutes...

And so with the bittersweet taste of transition on my tongue, we move forward with haircuts, shoe shopping, and earlier bedtimes.
As I hunt for the the final morsels of summer to savor, I wish you a fine finish to your week...

  1. What a beautiful buck and a great photo.
Yes, summer is winding down, it's even cooler here today with the rain and I spotted fallen leaves in the grass.
Mushroom hunting, how fun. Once the rain moves out I have the same thing to do.
    Have a great weekend MJ.

  2. YES - this time of year here is wonderful.
I feel it in the air - there was that crisp breeze this morning. It always hits right when the kids return to school. Love the photos - great one of the boy!!!!!
We spotted some mushrooms in the mountains last weekend.
    Enjoy this time before school.

  3. That must have been wonderful staring into the eyes of this little one, where I live deer are a rare sight, we do live on the edge of a famous historic house and estate (Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire) we take our nightly walk with the dogs in the grounds, I spotted a deer this week for the first time! Not a close up view like yours though...
Enjoy the last of the 'summer wine'. Hugs x

    1. HA! I didn't realize that might sound funny, the whole haircut thing :). Getting haircuts is a big deal here, mostly because my kids hate them. I usually just let it go and let them do whatever they want with their hair, but come school time, we get a little (and I mean little) trim so I can see their big brown eyes :).

  6. Love the gorgeous pics.
Summer is too sweet and fine and to spend in front of a computer screen. As much as I love summer and cannot believe that it is coming to an end...part of my neurotic mind is craving the routine that comes with fall and a new school year. I have to tell you that I found the perfect happy medium {for me} in homeschooling my big girls...The Charlotte Mason approach. Think un-schooled meets British classical.
    Cheers,

  8. I've always lived in a place that has four seasons -- and yet I find myself almost caught by surprise at the change of each one. It is that slight perception of one season tipping to the next that makes me catch my breath...

Wishing you the best as you enter fall!
    Hugs,

  9. Beautiful photos! These in-between times always put me in a contemplative mood, looking forward, looking back, anticipating the slow slide into winter. Wishing you a lovely almost-autumn.
