Yarn Along 11.2.11 Soup Goddess dream

Yarn Along!!!... with Ginny of course...It's been gorgeous here lately, and I am keeping fingers crossed that the cool weather is here to stay.

I casted on some delicious yarn to make Peekaboo mitts, a pattern so generously offered by Abi. I have a mini obsession with fingerless gloves as you can see here and here.

I am reading On the Road by Jack Kerouac and Jane Eyre, but what I'm really excited about it the fall issue of Real Simple's dinner tonight: done!

I had no idea that Real Simple magazine made these easy recipe magazine cookbooks (and they published a book). 75 recipes, 30 minutes or less...perfect. The pictures are gorgeous, the recipes are truly simple with everyday and easy to find ingredients, I am now having dreams that I could actually become a soup goddess with this little magazine.

It's true I also have a growing obsession with beautifully crafted cookbooks...maybe there is hope for me yet with the actual cooking part. That's a whole other post I think I need to write about, maybe get some advice from you cooking gurus out there, though my issues are not skill, I think know they are more psychologically related...yikes that might be too much info. Oh well, it's truth, and maybe it's time to get it out here :).  Looking forward to see what you are reading and yarning!

xoxo

  1. Oh Jack! I was pretty underwhelmed by On the Road, but Dharma Bums changed my life! In my house we call beautifully crafted cookbooks "food porn" (ehum). We make soup on Sunday nights that can be "extended" thru Tuesday by adding rice or pasta or pouring it over potatoes or something. It works out beautifully. Happy souping!

  2. I adore cookbooks and have been a collector since I was about 12! There are some really lovely ones out there MJ and I just know in my heart that you can prepare some wonderful meals. My suggestion to anyone who wants to learn how is just get in the kitchen and play. Food combinations are endless!
Love the yarn you are using for the mittens and I am with you on keeping this cool weather. It is so nice to finally wear a pair of jeans!

  7. I have no doubt that you could become a soup goddess! I could really use some more simple meals in my repertoire. I am just not finding the energy to put an hour or two into dinner every night. A cookbook like that might be a nice start for me!

  16. Love that yarn, I too am obsessed with fingerless mitts. They are just so darned handy. I made my hubby a pair cuz his hands get chilly at work (no pattern) and wrote a cute pattern for a pair for Miss Molly. http://wonderfullycrazyhome.blogspot.com/2011/01/mollys-mits.html
