I casted on some delicious yarn to make Peekaboo mitts, a pattern so generously offered by Abi. I have a mini obsession with fingerless gloves as you can see here and here.
I am reading On the Road by Jack Kerouac and Jane Eyre, but what I'm really excited about it the fall issue of Real Simple's dinner tonight: done!
I had no idea that Real Simple magazine made these easy recipe magazine cookbooks (and they published a book). 75 recipes, 30 minutes or less...perfect. The pictures are gorgeous, the recipes are truly simple with everyday and easy to find ingredients, I am now having dreams that I could actually become a soup goddess with this little magazine.
It's true I also have a growing obsession with beautifully crafted cookbooks...maybe there is hope for me yet with the actual cooking part. That's a whole other post I think I need to write about, maybe get some advice from you cooking gurus out there, though my issues are not skill, I
xoxo
Oh Jack! I was pretty underwhelmed by On the Road, but Dharma Bums changed my life! In my house we call beautifully crafted cookbooks "food porn" (ehum). We make soup on Sunday nights that can be "extended" thru Tuesday by adding rice or pasta or pouring it over potatoes or something. It works out beautifully. Happy souping!
ReplyDeleteI adore cookbooks and have been a collector since I was about 12! There are some really lovely ones out there MJ and I just know in my heart that you can prepare some wonderful meals. My suggestion to anyone who wants to learn how is just get in the kitchen and play. Food combinations are endless!
ReplyDeleteLove the yarn you are using for the mittens and I am with you on keeping this cool weather. It is so nice to finally wear a pair of jeans!
xx
awesome! and it was so nice to read the other day that you're moving go boulder. not that it's anywhere near me, but it's way closer than florida! woohoo! here's to hoping i'll see you one day ;)
ReplyDeleteI read cookbooks like novels. Love good photos in cookbooks - helps you to have something to compare. The mitts are very nice - love the color of the yarn.
ReplyDeletei love my cookbooks too, i have about a dozen that are in rotation all the time, trying always to resist every new one that comes out (but i do love to look). i'm so glad you found that magazine and it's 'speaking' to you. isn't soup a perfect meal?!
ReplyDeleteyour mitts look great. :)
I have been wearing my fingerless mitts everyday while the temps allow it glad I am not the only one. We are having soup tonight :)
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt that you could become a soup goddess! I could really use some more simple meals in my repertoire. I am just not finding the energy to put an hour or two into dinner every night. A cookbook like that might be a nice start for me!
ReplyDeletesoup is where it's at! i think it's what we eat about 99% of the time during the fall/winter. so easy leaving extra time for knitting and/or reading ;-)
ReplyDeleteMmmm... soup! I love the colourway for your mitts. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteFingerless gloves are so wonderful. And so are delicious cookbooks.
ReplyDeleteYou knit, read, and cook? You're my hero! I barely make time to cook. ;-) Those recipes look delicious. And the colors in the mitten are lovely!
ReplyDeleteThere really are so many beautiful cookbooks these days. Our library gets lots of nice ones.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fingerless gloves link, I have been thinking of making some and those ones look just right. Happy knitting and cooking to you!
I'm working on my scarf to match my fingerless gloves (actually, I think they are called gauntlets,) -- it's almost done. Hope I don't run out of yarn! :)
ReplyDeletei rarely use cookbooks, i'm too much of a maverick in the kitchen, but i love looking through them, same with food blogs. i do get inspiration....
ReplyDeleteok, you need to come clean and confess your cooking issues. come on, we're all friends here. ;)
thanks for the link! great gift pattern to have in the library. what a sweet pdf she created too. already downloaded it.. i'm reading backwards here today as you can see. that cookbook looks like a good one too! and i think soups a perfect meal like lori. :)
ReplyDeleteLove that yarn, I too am obsessed with fingerless mitts. They are just so darned handy. I made my hubby a pair cuz his hands get chilly at work (no pattern) and wrote a cute pattern for a pair for Miss Molly. http://wonderfullycrazyhome.blogspot.com/2011/01/mollys-mits.html
ReplyDeleteThat yarn really is lovely, just my colours and just right for autumn.
