Thrifting

Joining Cory for Thrifty Thursday, I think I did good this past week :). A mint green chair in great condition structurally but could use re-painting, a queen-sized corduroy quilt that is absolutely gorgeous and only needs a little mending on one small part of an edge, and a beautiful piece of handmade pottery, a bowl weighing in at about 2 pounds. I didn't need any of these things, but did that stop me?!!

I am not sure how my husband is going to take this, but I feel a new addiction coming on. This is SO MUCH FUN!! And in a town where cool finds like these seem to be everywhere, we are definitely in trouble here.

In regards to finding furniture for home (we get the keys Saturday-yippeee!), I will proudly say that so far nearly everything we have purchased is recycled and upcycled furniture, from consignment or made from reclaimed pieces of wood and materials. The only exception is our mattress and bedframe that we purchased new last weekend, but even that is made from all wood and all natural materials. I am hoping we can keep this up with just a few more necessities to go. I do look forward to showing you these things, but I've got to get in the house first :)!!

Happy Thrifty Thursday!

  1. so excited to see you new casa.
Beautiful finds! I LOVE that blanket!
About the hubby: if he likes a more modern look (you mentioned the "Steve Jobs" look on my blog), you can work on combining modern and thrifted. Some great books out there....
YOu could do a lot of white combined with your natural wood and add thrifted color bursts.
So exciting you get to start from ground zero. The fun is combining your and hubbies sense of style.

  7. I am a recovering thriftaholic. I went to thrift stores almost every other day buying any and all things that had so much potential. I had to get a hold of myself. I do much better now. The quilt is wonderful, one can never have too many quilts. And look at those bones, whoo that chair has some lovely bones! Can't wait to see your new place, if you decide to share. xoxo

  9. Gosh, I just love thrifty finds! Right now I'm into this awesome consignment clothing place in my town. They do it right, only take really good looking items, and it's all organized. I take all my gently worn clothes there, and we get a lot of great brand-name stuff for cheap! I've been meaning to visit some of the consignment stores for furnishings - I think you may have given me the push I need :)

  16. girl, i could spend the better part of a day in a thrift store. no lie. but I just had a nice experience on the other side of thrifting....I took two car loads of stuff to the thrift store after hoarding it all in the garage for three years... telling my wife, 'no, no, I can sell this stuff on craigslist and get some cash'... well, it was a practice in letting go and not hoarding the scarcity mentality that I sometimes come at things with.... I feel the karma will make it's way back to me far more plentiful than any cash would.

now I have room for more thrifting adventures... muaaa ahh ahh ahh!!!

    :) jules..
