Morning meditation

Note to myself:

Don't think. Don't get caught in that trap. Don't get caught in believing that there isn't enough time. There is plenty. But you can't do it all. Some things just have to wait. And when you fill your mind with too many things, there isn't room enough to breathe. That's when your heart begins to race as fast as your mind. That's when your neck gets tense and your shoulders are up to your ears, your chest is tight and the worry lines begin to scrunch on your forehead.

Stop.   Look.   Listen.

Do you hear it? The hum of the fridge behind you. The touch of the keys underneath your fingertips. The trees outside the window blowing in the breeze.  The sunlight breaking through the blinds. The neighbor's cat on his morning walk through your backyard.  How I would love a cat.  Focus!!! Take a deep breath, now.

Don't forget what brings you here.  Don't forget today's purpose.  Feel alive, give love, remember abundance.  Don't forget to wander a little, don't forget to wonder. You have all you need.  Now go take your shower :).

much love
xx oo

  2. I want to start meditating first thing in the morning...but that would mean I'd have to wake up EARLIER than my babes. Sigh. 5am? I'm getting tired just thinking about it.

Maybe I will try to incorporate an evening meditation. I like your mantra...'Feel alive, give love, remember abundance' You said it!

  11. It seems contrary - to get more done, slow down. I have tried to slow down, and, by golly, everything that needs to get done, gets done.

Now, if I could only live that way all the time...

  12. Ah, MJ!!! I might just have to have this post tattooed on my body somewhere so I don't forget...cuz I often do...then I'm in that heart racing, tense shoulder place and I'm climbing the walls!! But today...you reminded me. Thanks! :)

  13. Beautiful as always! I have to have a similar conversation with myself at bedtime. It takes at least 2 run-throughs before my shoulders will give a little. Hugs to you!

  15. Ah. So beautiful, MJ. Again, you spoke right into my heart. I love this post.

We're slowing down too here. Just. Breathing. Being together. Keeping it so very simple. It's making a huge difference.

Thank you for these words, and for ALL your kindness!

  16. I do walking meditations all the time to re-balance throughout the day and it is wonderful! Just taking the time to truly BE in any given moment even when my son is being loud or pulling books off my shelves AGAIN, bring awareness back to where it should be.

  17. I can always guarantee getting a dose of clarity and wisdom when I come to your blog.

    Thank goodness for MJ- hooray!

I read a book recently called 'Buddism for Mothers' and it dicsussed the way in which most mothers do not feel like they have time to mediatate. The author suggested that even when washing the dishes, don't think, just do.
That in itself is a meditation. You don't need to be cross legged in a temple to meditate.
Non focused awareness is the best, inside the hussle and bustle of the home, there is a heart beat, a pulse, and we are all connected.

    Thank you MJ

  20. Ooh. This was a much needed read. As I was reading, I noticed my clenched jaw and that I was holding my breath (that one's part of my 2011 word of the year to work on-breathe). What a lovely meditation!
